Long Crested Eagle

This photo was taken very early one morning as we were leaving for the morning drive in the Mara North Conservancy, Kenya.

I love that even without detail you can see what this bird is because of its distinctive feathers.

Cobweb

Following a very stormy and wet night our morning drive was damp and misty.

The grass was covered with dew and cobwebs creating a lovely sepia coloured scene.

Antelope

I was on my way back to camp in the Massai Mara at the end of the morning drive when i saw this solitary antelope.

I love the shape of the trees framing him on his mound.

Tanzanian Sunrise.

This photo was taken in September 2015 in the Selous Game Reserve by Lake Siwandu at around 6am.

The beautiful orange sky was our reward for being up and out so early!

The borassus palms are a familiar sight in Southern Tanzania and are in fact a plant not a tree!

Lioness.

This lioness had killed the zebra earlier and we waited to watch the pride enjoy their feast.

She was making sure we kept away – the look says it all!

Claws.

This lioness was a first time mum and I had earlier watched her with her 3 cubs playing and feeding.

She went off to hunt so I followed. She really struggled and in fact I watched her unsuccessfully pursue several animals.

It was a typical hot Kenyan day and she looked exhausted. She sat down with her chin and feet on a branch in the shade to recover.

Rhino

Despite having visited Africa a few times this was my first time seeing a rhino.

The poaching crisis has reduced the numbers of these iconic creatures to such low levels that even the rangers appeared en masse to see this one.

This was taken in the Mara North Conservancy, Kenya.
